All our cleaning products are constantly exposed to grime, dirt, and dust, and sometimes we think that our favorite stain cleaner will remove the dirt from the mop but doing that is not enough. Washing our cotton or microfiber mop will help eliminate bad odors and the smell of chlorine that can sometimes remain from the continuous use of our cleaning solutions.
That's why we want to share some tips on how you can take better care of your favorite mop. The first step is to remove the mop handle, so you can wash it easily, and you can do this in two ways:
- By removing the mop handle, you can place the mop in the washer with a bit of laundry detergent. Some have bicarbonate or active oxygen additives that help eliminate bacteria and bad odors. You can do this washing machine load together with other kitchen rags or cleaning cloths; in this way, the clothes will not be in contact with what we are washing.

The other way to do it, but a little more manual, is removing the handle and washing the mop in a washboard. Here we can add detergent or our favorite stain remover, a bit of activated oxygen, and our mops will be clean again. We must leave these rinsing for a short time and then put them to dry.
Remember that the drying process is super important in any case, so the mop can continue helping you clean your home. It is also vital that you do not leave it in the bucket with water because it can damage the mop handle.
